LOS ANGELES, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Sony's long in development video game adaptation of Uncharted is back on track with filmmaker Shawn Levy signing on to direct.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Levy will be working from a script by Joe Carnahan who was being courted to direct before he signed on to helm the next entry in the Bad Boys series, Bad Boys for Life.

Levy is the fourth director to join the project following in the footsteps of Seth Gordon, Neil Burger and most famously David O. Russell who had hoped to make the film with Mark Wahlberg stepping into the shoes of series protagonist Nathan Drake.

Uncharted, which follows the globe-trotting adventures of Nathan Drake as he hunts for treasure much in the same vein as Indiana Jones, recently wrapped up its main character's story in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End which was released on the Playstation 4 back in May.

The series is known for its cinematic presentation that includes action-packed gameplay sequences filled with destructive car chases and close calls.

Levy, who is known for directing the Night at the Museum series along with Date Night, Real Steel and The Internship, recently executive produced and directed episodes of Netflix's newest hit series, Stranger Things.
