LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Jennifer Lawrence is gearing up to play Zelda Fitzgerald in a new biopic.

The 26-year-old actress will portray the late writer and Jazz Age icon in the new Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) movie Zelda, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Deadline reports Howard is developing the project with Allison Shearmur Productions and Imagine Entertainment. Lawrence, who will also produce, has reportedly been circling the movie since August.

The White Queen writer Emma Frost penned the screenplay, which was inspired by the Nancy Milford biography Zelda. The film will explore the question: Can love exist between creative equals?

Fitzgerald, who wrote magazine articles, short stories and the novel Save Me the Waltz, was married to The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The couple were celebrated for their glamorous lifestyle but struggled with alcohol abuse and other marital problems.

Fitzgerald was institutionalized and diagnosed with schizophrenia in the 1930s. F. Scott Fitzgerald died of a heart attack at age 44 in 1940, while Fitzgerald was killed in a fire at her hospital in Asheville, N.C., at age 47 in 1948.
