NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Leonardo DiCaprio brought his film Before the Flood to the United Nations on Thursday.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban-ki Moon, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, and actress Shailene Woodley were among those to attend the screening at U.N. headquarters in New York.

Before the Flood is directed by Fisher Stevens (The Cove) and executive produced by DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese. The climate change documentary features DiCaprio, president Barack Obama and Pope Francis.

"Climate change is real. It is happening right now," DiCaprio had said during his Oscar acceptance speech in February. "It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating."

"We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people who will be most affected by this, for our children's children," he encouraged.

The screening marked Woodley's first red carpet appearance since her Oct. 10 for protesting the Dakota Access pipeline. The Divergent star released a statement about the incident on Thursday.

Before the Flood will premiere Oct. 30 on the National Geographic Channel. The Hollywood Reporter reported this week that DiCaprio and his Appian Way Productions company have a Captain Planet movie in the works.
