Hugh Jackman announces 'Wolverine 3' title: 'Logan'

NEW YORK, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Hugh Jackman revealed Wednesday that the third Wolverine movie will be titled Logan.

The 47-year-old Australian actor, who plays the character in the Marvel cinematic universe, announced the official title by tweeting a photo of the film's poster.

Logan director James Mangold also shared the poster, along with a picture of the second page of the movie's script. Notes on the page appear to hint that Logan, aka Wolverine, may not survive the film.

"Now might be a good time to talk about the 'fights' described in the next 100 or so pages. Basically, if you're on the make for a hyper choreographed, gravity defying, city-block destroying, CG [expletive]athon, this ain't your movie.

In this flick, people will get hurt or killed when [expletive] falls on them. They will get just as hurt or just as killed if they get with something big and heavy like, say, a car. Should anyone in our story have the misfortune to fall off a roof or out a window, they don't bounce. They will die.

As for our hero, well, he's older now and it's clear his abilities aren't what they once were. He's fading on the inside and his diminished healing factor keeps him in a constant state of chronic pain -- hence booze as a painkiller. So by all means, go ahead and worry about him."

The child's hand in the poster and the script's notes suggest that Jackman will pass the baton to a younger actor. The star had confirmed in 2015 that Wolverine 3 will mark his final appearance as the character.

"It felt like it was the right time to do it," he said of his impending exit on The Dr. Oz Show. "And let's be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I'm grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it."

Jackman debuted as Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men and has since portrayed the character in six other movies. Logan opens in theaters March 3, 2017.
