Storm Reid lands lead in Disney's 'A Wrinkle in Time'

The teenager is known for the 2013 movie "12 Years a Slave."

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Burgeoning actress Storm Reid will star in Disney's A Wrinkle in Time.

Director Ava DuVernay announced the 13-year-old's casting in a tweet Tuesday, in addition to confirming Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling.

"Thrilled to confirm that Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon + Mindy Kaling have joined Wrinkle along with Storm Reid!" the Selma helmer wrote.

News outlets reported Reid will play the movie's protagonist, Meg Murry. Winfrey, Witherspoon and Kaling were previously announced as Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who, respectively.

"It was a dark and stormy night...I wwondder wwhat Mrs. Whatsit is uupp to? @rwitherspoon," Winfrey tweeted after DuVernay's announcement.

"@oprah Wild nights are my glory! Don't you agree, Mrs. Who? @mindykaling," Witherspoon responded.

"@rwitherspoon @oprah I do! And good news! We've found Meg! Hi, @AlwayzStormn! @Disney," Kaling added.

A Wrinkle in Time is based on the Madeleine L'Engle book of the same name, which Disney previously adapted as a 2003 television movie. The story follows Meg as she searches across the universe for her missing father.

Reid made her film debut as Emily in the 2013 movie 12 Years a Slave. She has since appeared on the TV series NCIS: Los Angeles, Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, and Chicago P.D.
