LOS ANGELES, July 22 (UPI) -- Director Rian Johnson has announced he filmed the final shot of Star Wars: Episode VIII.

"Final slate of the final shot. VIII is officially wrapped. Thanks to the best cast and crew in the galaxy, and thanks to the fans for all the love and support though the whole process. Cannot wait to put it together and share it with you all!" Johnson wrote in a Facebook post Friday.

The film is set for theatrical release Dec. 15, 2017. Cast members Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill took to social media last week to announce they had their last days on the film set.
