'Annabelle 2' begins shooting in Los Angeles

BURBANK, Calif., June 30 (UPI) -- Director David F. Sandberg has begun principal photography in Los Angeles on the horror sequel Annabelle 2, New Line Cinema announced.

The movie follows the 2014 blockbuster Annabelle. It is being produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who also partnered on The Conjuring movies.

"In Annabelle 2, several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a doll-maker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the doll-maker's possessed creation, Annabelle," a synopsis said.

The film stars Stephanie Sigman, Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Philippa Anne Coulthard, Grace Fulton, Lou Lou Safran, Samara Lee, Tayler Buck, Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto.

The screenplay was penned by Gary Dauberman, who also wrote Annabelle.

The sequel is scheduled for release on May 19, 2017.
