LOS ANGELES, May 31 (UPI) -- Melissa McCarthy isn't fazed by negative reaction to the new Ghostbusters.

The 45-year-old actress responded to criticism of the reboot in an interview with The Guardian amid continued backlash against the female-led cast of McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

"All those comments -- 'You're ruining my childhood!' I mean, really," the actress said. "Four women doing any movie on earth will destroy your childhood?"

"I have a visual of these people not having a [romantic partner], not having friends, so they're just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the Internet," she added. "I just hope they find a friend."

Ghostbusters, which opens July 15, is a remake of the 1984 movie of the same name starring Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Eddie Hudson. Aykroyd himself praised the reboot after seeing a test screening.

"Apart from brilliant, genuine performances from the cast both male and female, it has more laughs and more scares than the first two films plus Bill Murray is in it!" the actor said Sunday.

Ghostbusters reboot director Paul Feig called the criticism "vile" and "misogynistic" after announcing the cast in 2015. The movie's first trailer remains the most disliked trailer in YouTube history.
