Justin Lin in talks to direct 'Space Jam 2' starring LeBron James

LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) -- Fast and Furious helmer Justin Lin is in talks to direct a Space Jam sequel starring NBA star LeBron James.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the director has joined the Warner Bros. project to co-write the film with frequent collaborator Andrew Dodge and Alfredo Botello.

Lin is also looking to direct and produce Space Jam 2 under his Perfect Storm Entertainment production banner. Known for directing four of the Fast and Furious films starting with 2006's Tokyo Drift, Lin last helmed sci-fi sequel Star Trek Beyond which arrives in theaters July 22.

First announced in 2014, Space Jam 2 set to star the Cleveland Cavaliers forward, would work as a sequel to the 1996 animated and live-action hit that starred basketball great Michael Jordan teaming up with Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes crew to defeat a group of enhanced aliens at a game of basketball.

James recently made his acting debut Amy Schumer's hit comedy Trainwreck.
