Jamie Foxx in talks to star in R-rated puppet comedy, 'The Happytime Murders'

LOS ANGELES, April 28 (UPI) -- Jamie Foxx is in early talks to star in the Jim Henson Company's upcoming mature puppet comedy, The Happytime Murders.

According to Deadline, the film is expected to receive an R rating and will be directed by Brian Henson with a screenplay by Todd Berger, Dee Robertson and Red writers Jon and Erich Hoeber.

The Jim Henson Company famous for creating The Muppets, have been trying to get Happytime Murders off the ground since 2008 according to The Hollywood Reporter. Production company STX Entertainment picked up the rights to the project in 2015.

Set in a world where puppets and humans coexist, Foxx would portray LAPD Detective Edwards who must re-team with his former partner, a hard-drinking puppet named Phil to solve a case of murders involving the stars a hit television show entitled, The Happytime Gang.

The Happytime Murders will mark a return to comedy for Foxx who was last seen in 2014's Annie and who will next be seen in director Edgar Wright's Baby Driver.
