'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' wins big at VES Awards

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Star Wars: The Force Awakens won big at the 14th annual Visual Effects Society Awards, winning trophies in all major categories.

The film took home four trophies, including the top category of Outstanding VFX in a Photoreal Feature. The Force Awakens was also honored for Outstanding Models, Created Environments and Virtual Cinematography.

The Revenant, was another top award winner, earning VES honors in Supporting Visual effects in a Photoreal Feature and two awards for the bear attack seen in the film including Compositing in a Photoreal Feature and Animated Performance in a Photoreal Feature.

Pixar's The Good Dinosaur was also recognized in three major animated categories while Mad Max: Fury Road won for Effects Simulations in a Photoreal Feature for the actioner's desert storm sequence.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is nominated for Best Visual Effects at the upcoming Academy Awards on Feb. 28 along with Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, The Martian, and Ex Machina.
