'Carol' gets five Golden Globe nominations; Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Carol earned a leading five Golden Globe Award nominations, followed close behind by The Big Short, The Revenant and Steve Jobs, which are up for four prizes apiece.

The nominations were announced in Los Angeles on Thursday by Dennis Quaid, Angela Bassett, Chloe Grace Moretz and America Ferrera.

Ricky Gervais is to host the Jan. 10 Golden Globes ceremony where the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will bestow its highest honors on the stars of film and television.

The nominees in the top film categories are:
