LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Knight of Cups released a new trailer starring Christian Bale on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old English actor portrays Rick, a screenwriter who searches for meaning outside his Hollywood existence. Cate Blanchett co-stars as his partner, Nancy, with Natalie Portman as Rick's new love interest, Elizabeth.

Director Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line, The Tree of Life) filmed the movie back-to-back with his 2012 drama To the Wonder. Bale previously discussed the film and Malick's methods at a Berlin International Film Festival press conference in February.

"He didn't tell us what [the movie] was about," the star said. "He really just gave me the character description. We worked on the character a great deal, worked on his back story. I never had any lines to learn ... I never knew what I was going to be doing each day."

Knight of Cups remained in post-production for years, and will open in theaters Mar. 4, 2016. Brian Dennehy, Antonio Banderas, Freida Pinto, Jason Clarke and Wes Bentley are among the many other stars with unspecified roles.
