Jennifer Aniston joins Robert De Niro film 'The Comedian'

The actress last starred in the drama "Cake" this year.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Jennifer Aniston has joined the cast of The Comedian.

The 46-year-old actress will star with Robert De Niro in the forthcoming drama. The 72-year-old actor plays an aging insult comic, à la Don Rickles, who develops a close relationship with Aniston's character after meeting her at a wedding.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High producer Art Linson co-wrote the film with Comedy Central Roast comic Jeff Ross. Linson will also co-produce with son John Linson, with Ray helmer Taylor Hackford to direct.

De Niro and the elder Linson have been interested in the project for years and will begin filming in early 2016. The actor previously portrayed aspiring stand-up comedian Rupert Pupkin in the 1982 movie The King of Comedy.

Aniston last appeared in Cake, and is presently filming Mother's Day with Kate Hudson and The Yellow Birds with Jack Huston. De Niro recently starred in The Intern and is slated for Joy with Jennifer Lawrence and Dirty Grandpa with Zac Efron.
