Vin Diesel: Final 'Fast & Furious' trilogy will end saga

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Actor Vin Diesel announced on Facebook Sunday that he plans on producing one final Fast & Furious trilogy, as the last chapter in the popular action-packed franchise.

"Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision... they have been like family," Diesel wrote. "I promised the studio I would deliver one last trilogy to end the saga."

Diesel, 48, says he is currently looking for a director to helm the latest entry, Fast & Furious 8 set to release in theaters on April 14, 2017.

"My producing partner Neal [Moritz] would love for me to just sign off on a director, but this is too special a franchise, so these matters have to be very carefully handled," Diesel wrote. "To be clear, NO ONE has been offered to helm Fast 8 yet... let alone seen a script." According to Diesel, he will announce the "directors" for the final trilogy of films with his next Facebook post.

Diesel has a history of announcing new film projects on social media as he took to Instagram in August to announce that a new xXx sequel would start shooting in December.

The actor will next be seen in The Last Witch Hunter which hits theaters on Oct. 23.
