VENICE, Italy, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Dakota Johnson is excited for Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker.

The 25-year-old American actress discussed the movie with Empire magazine at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend. Johnson shared her enthusiasm for the project following word James Foley will replace Sam Taylor-Johnson as director.

"It's quite exciting," she said. "There was a moment of being afraid, because I didn't know what it was going to be like. I had an experience with Sam and then it all went away. Now I'm excited."

"I think James is a talented filmmaker," she said of Foley, who is known for At Close Range with Sean Penn and Glengarry Glen Ross with Al Pacino. "How often do you get to reconvene with the same people and have a different spin?"

Johnson will reprise Anastasia Steele in the movie, with Jamie Dornan to return as Christian Grey. The pair are also slated for the third film in the trilogy, Fifty Shades Freed, but are not under contract for a possible adaptation of the spinoff Grey.

The Fifty Shades movies are based on the E.L. James books of the same name. Taylor-Johnson helmed the first film to financial success, but quit the franchise over reported bad blood with James. The author's husband, Niall Leonard, will write the second movie.

Johnson wowed on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, where she promoted Black Mass with Johnny Depp and A Bigger Splash with Tilda Swinton. The actress is also scheduled for How to Be Single with Rebel Wilson.
