LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Jason Momoa is to star in Braven, director Lin Oeding's next action thriller.

The casting was announced Thursday by Highland Film Group, which is handling the international sales for the movie.

Momoa will play the title character, a humble logger residing along the U.S.-Canada border, who is set upon by a group of villains in his secluded cabin in the mountains.

"Little do the elite drug runners know the unassuming man they've encountered has an impressive bite colliding two dynamic forces -- one fighting for the lives of his family, the other for the love of the kill," a synopsis said.

Based on an original story by Mike Nilon, the film was written by Thomas Pa'a Sibbett. Momoa and Brian Mendoza's Pride of Gypsies will produce the project alongside Nilon and Molly Hassell.

HFG will introduce Braven to foreign buyers at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

"Braven is the perfect addition to our growing portfolio. Lin Oeding's background in stunts tied with Jason Momoa's physical mastery assures us that the film will deliver heart-pounding action at every turn," HFG's Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier said in a joint statement.

Best known for his work on TV's Stargate: Atlantis, Game of Thrones and The Red Road, Momoa will soon be seen playing the comic-book hero Aquaman in a trio of Warner Bros. movies.
