LOS ANGELES, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- The recent box-office success of Straight Outta Compton has Hollywood mulling over a potential sequel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Welcome to Death Row a book and documentary that features many of the same figures from the Universal hit, is being shopped around as a potential continuation of the series.

Straight Outta Compton follows the story of N.W.A. from its origins in Compton, Calif. in the '80s. Original members include Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins), Ice Cube (O'Shea Jackson Jr.), the late Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell), MC Ren (Aldis Hodge) and DJ Yella (Neil Brown Jr.).

S. Leigh Savidge, who received a story and co-executive producer credit on Compton is working to get the project off the ground. Welcome to Death Row documents the years after N.W.A formed in the late '90s when Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur launched successful solo careers under hip-hop executive Suge Knight, one of the most explosive and controversial periods in music history.

This new film would overlap with the tail end of Compton's narrative as Shakur appears in a scene towards the end of the movie. The lack of musical rights would complicate a studio deal for Savidge, however the producer bought N.W.A's rights after he and Alan Wenkus began writing Compton in 2002.

Meanwhile Straight Outta Compton continues to dominate at the box office topping all other films for the third weekend in a row Sunday.
