LOS ANGELES, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Matt Damon says it will be clear to audiences the next installment of his Bourne film franchise takes place in a "post-Snowden" world. Damon is to start production on his fourth movie as Jason Bourne next month. The film is due out in July 2016.

Damon last played the globe-trotting spy in the 2007 blockbuster The Bourne Ultimatum.
"Without giving too much of it away, it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world," Damon said, referring to Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency leaker, while talking to BuzzFeed about the next installment in the Bourne saga.
"It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy."
