LOS ANGELES, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Actor Vin Diesel announced on Instagram that he will be reprising his role as Xander Cage in a third xXx film.

The social media post Sunday, featuring a younger Diesel sitting down wearing a suit, also highlighted just how far along in development new sequel is: It will begin filming this year.

"While I was filming XXX, guys on set called me Air Diesel...The time to return has come. Filming starts December in the Philippines," the actor wrote on Instagram.

The original 2002 film starred Diesel as an extreme-athlete-turned-government-agent that also starred Samuel L. Jackson. Despite signing on for a sequel, Diesel dropped out and was replaced by Ice Cube in xXx: State of the Union.

With the recent successes of Diesel's Fast & Furious franchise, the actor is most likely able to push along projects like this one that have long remained dormant.

Vin Diesel will next be seen in The Last Witch Hunter, which hits theaters Oct. 23.
