Gerard Butler stars in 'London Has Fallen' teaser trailer

The first film, "Olympus Has Fallen," focused on a North Korean attack on the White House.

LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- Gerard Butler stars in an explosive first London Has Fallen teaser trailer.

The 45-year-old Scottish actor returns as head U.S. Secret Service agent Mike Banning, with Aaron Eckart as President Benjamin Asher and Morgan Freeman as Vice President Allan Trumbull.

The preview sees the trio attend the British Prime Minister's funeral in London. The characters team up with an MI6 agent (Charlotte Riley) after the event is targeted by someone who plans to wipe out the world leaders present.

London Has Fallen is directed by Babak Najafi, and co-stars Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo. The movie is a sequel to Olympus Has Fallen (2013), which was directed by Antoine Fuqua and earned $161 million at the box office.

The film opens in theaters January 22, 2016. Butler is also scheduled for Gods of Egypt with NIkolaj Coster-Waldau, while Eckhart will appear in My All American with Finn Wittrock and Freeman in a Ben-Hur remake with Jack Huston.
