LOS ANGELES, May 24 (UPI) -- The latest trailer for Black Mass shows Johnny Depp playing real-life, Boston mob boss Whitey Bulger, as he gives his 6-year-old son some questionable advice.

"It's not what you do, it's where and when you do it. And who you do it to or with," Depp's balding Bulger tells his child. "If nobody sees it, it didn't happen."

The clip has gotten nearly 1.1 million views since it was posted on YouTube Friday.

Co-starring Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dakota Johnson and Kevin Bacon, the biopic is set for release Sept. 18.

"In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly persuades Irish mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob," said a synopsis from Warner Bros. "The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history."

Bulger, who is now 85, ran a South Boston crime syndicate for decades, allegedly bribing corrupt authorities to look the other way while he conducted his illicit business. He went on the lam in 1994 and kept a low profile until his arrest in California in 2011. He was tried in 2013 and convicted of money laundering, extortion, weapons offenses and racketeering -- a charge that encompassed his involvement in 11 murders. Exonerated in eight additional homicides, Bulger was sentenced to two life sentences and five years behind bars. His lawyers are now working on his appeal.
