Ryan Reynolds shares bloody selfie on 'Deadpool' set

The actor first portrayed the Marvel antihero in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" (2009).

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 27 (UPI) -- Ryan Reynolds shared a new Deadpool photo over the weekend.

The 38-year-old actor will portray the title character in the upcoming film, and has previously teased the Marvel antihero's mask and full costume.

"Officially halfway through production on #deadpool and I feel fine. The other guys? notsomuch," he captioned a bloody picture of himself on set.

Reynolds first played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), and signed on for the standalone movie in December 2014. The unstable and morally ambiguous character is a mercenary who possesses accelerated healing powers.

Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller and opens in theaters Feb. 12, 2016. Morena Baccarin co-stars as Vanessa Carlysle, aka Copycat, with Ed Skrein as Francis, aka Ajax, Gina Carano as Angel Dust, T. J. Miller as Weasel, and Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
