NEW YORK, April 19 (UPI) -- Star Wars creator George Lucas says he doesn't have any inside information about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the first installment in the franchise with a story not penned by him.

J.J. Abrams is helming the eagerly awaited picture, which is due in theaters this December.

"I hope it's successful. I hope they do a great job," Variety reported Lucas said during Friday's Tribeca Film Festival panel discussion about his career.

He went on to reveal he hasn't seen trailers for the latest sequel because his only regret about making the six previous Star Wars movies was that he never got to enjoy them the way the fans did.

"I don't know anything about it," he said of the seventh film. "This time it'll be very thrilling."
