LOS ANGELES, April 18 (UPI) -- Independence Day veterans Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman have joined the cast of the alien-invasion blockbuster's upcoming sequel.
Director Roland Emmerich announced the news on Twitter Friday.

LOS ANGELES, April 18 (UPI) -- Independence Day veterans Judd Hirsch and Bill Pullman have joined the cast of the alien-invasion blockbuster's upcoming sequel. Director Roland Emmerich announced the news on Twitter Friday.
"It's official... we're thrilled to have the GREAT Judd Hirsch grace the set of #IndependenceDay once again!" Emmerich tweeted, followed by: "Today we celebrate our #IndependenceDay sequel. Welcome back, Bill Pullman."
Original cast members Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum and Brent Spiner have also signed on to reprise their roles in Independence Day 2, while Liam Hemsworth will play a new character.
Will Smith, the breakout star of the 1996 film, will not appear in the sequel, which is set for release in June 2016.
