Eminem was originally eyed for the lead role, and shared the trailer Friday on YouTube. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) directed the film from a script by Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), and Naomie Harris, Victor Ortiz, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Tyrese Gibson also star.

Gyllenhaal gained 15 pounds for the role and teased his dramatic transformation in a movie still released in December. Southpaw opens in theaters July 31, and the actor is also scheduled for Everest with Keira Knightley and Demolition with Naomi Watts.
