NEW YORK, March 3 (UPI) -- Actor Hugh Jackman says he loved how his new robot movie Chappie not only allowed him to explore the possibilities and perils of artificial intelligence, but also let him speak in his natural Australian accent and wear a now-unfashionable mullet hairstyle.

"One of the images that first was sent to me was of an Australian character who had a mullet... It included the shorts and the mullet and I just loved it and, weirdly I had forgotten, but my wife reminded me when she saw the film, that the first job I had where she met me, I had a mullet," the 46-year-old actor told reporters at a recent New York press conference, referring to the short on the top, long in the back hairstyle. "So, it was kind of great to me that it was a throwback to 20 years ago. But it just seemed to fit who he is. He is one of those guys who thinks he is the coolest. He thinks that everyone at the office likes him and he thinks that he's got it altogether and he doesn't realize that, from the haircut to the shorts to the way he acts, that no one really likes him. But he really thinks he is the man and the mullet just seemed perfect."
