'General Hospital' star Ryan Paevey says he auditioned for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'

"I think I have a little bit more respect for women than Christian did, so it's kind of a step outside of my shoes because if you know the character a little bit, it's rough. It's rough. My hat's off to Jamie [Dornan] for going there," says Paevey.

NEW YORK, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- General Hospital star Ryan Paevey says he auditioned to play Christian Grey in the erotic blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey, but lost the part to Jamie Dornan.

"I did read for Christian Grey," Paevey said, while guest hosting The View Tuesday.

"And how was that?" the chat show's moderator Whoopi Goldberg wanted to know.

"About how you think," the 30-year-old actor admitted. "I think I have a little bit more respect for women than Christian did, so it's kind of a step outside of my shoes because if you know the character a little bit, it's rough. It's rough. My hat's off to Jamie for going there."

"Tell them what you had to do," co-host Nicolle Wallace encouraged him.

"Phase 1, you're dressed. When you walk in, you are dressed," Paevey began.

"Get to Phase 2, get to Phase 2," panelist Rosie Perez said.

"Phase 2, you sit in a long line in a hallway with a bunch of strangers, everybody knowing that one of us is going to molest one us in about five minutes or so, and then you walk in and they've got some lines and she says something about how she wants to introduce herself to me and...," he explained.

"And then you take off your clothes?" Perez asked.

"I did, I did, but I don't do it, she does it," the actor said.

"I think you would have been a great Christian Grey," Wallace gushed.

"Evidentally, it didn't go that well," he smiled.

Goldberg injected more humor to the conversation when she looked at a sexy photo of Paevey with his pants unbuttoned to reveal his boxer shorts, then asked where she could buy the drawers, prompting Wallace to tease her about missing the point of the image.

"You start feeling creepy when you get to be a certain age and you're looking at somebody who could be your damn grandson," quipped Goldberg, 59. "I just can't do it anymore. I used to be able to go, 'Heeey!'"

"And you can't now, why not?" Paevey inquired.

"No, no! Because all I can see is you with a rattle," Goldberg said. "I've got no energy for young men. It's too much for me."
