LOS ANGELES, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Brad Pitt may star in new Angelina Jolie film Africa.

The 51-year-old actor is in talks to portray real-life conservationist Richard Leakey, according to The Wrap. Forrest Gump writer Eric Roth penned the script, with Jolie as director and co-producer with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Jon Peters.

"Based on Richard Leakey's inspirational life, Africa is a story that deserves to be told," Ellison said in a statement in September 2014. "It is very close to my heart, and I know that it will exceed my expectations in Angelina's hands. She is an incredibly talented filmmaker."

Leakey was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1944, and began his career as a paleoanthropologist. He fought to protect elephants from poachers as the head of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Department in the 1980s, and later launched the Safina political party.

Pitt and Jolie previously collaborated on Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005), and will reunite on screen in By the Sea. The romantic drama is the actress' latest project as director, and stars the actors as a troubled married couple in 1970s France.
