Screen Actors Guild Award nominations announced in LA

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Jennifer Aniston was recognized for a rare dramatic performance and Benedict Cumberbatch earned triple nods when the Screen Actors Guild Award nominations were announced in Los Angeles Wednesday.

Ansel Elgort and Eva Longoria read the names of the nominees at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

Aniston was nominated for Best Lead Actress in a Film for her work in Cake. She will compete for the honor with Felicity Jones from The Theory of Everything, Julianne Moore for Still Alice, Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl and Reese Witherspoon for Wild.

Up for Best Lead Actor in a Film are Steve Carell for Foxcatcher, Cumberbatch for The Imitation Game, Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, Michael Keaton for Birdman and Eddie Redmayne for The Theory of Everything.

The contenders for Best Supporting Actor in a Film are Robert Duvall for The Judge, Ethan Hawke for Boyhood, Edward Norton for Birdman, Mark Ruffalo for Foxcatcher and J.K. Simmons for Whiplash.

In the running for Best Supporting Actress in a Film are Patricia Arquette for Boyhood, Keira Knightley for The Imitation Game, Emma Stone for Birdman, Meryl Streep for Into the Woods and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent.

Shortlisted for Best Ensemble in a Film are the casts of Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything.

Nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy Series are Uzo Aduba for Orange is the New Black, Julie Bowen for Modern Family, Edie Falco for Nurse Jackie, Julia Louis-Dreyfus for Veep and Amy Poehler for Parks and Recreation.

Up for Best Actor in a TV Comedy Series are Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family, Louis C.K. from Louie, William H. Macy from Shameless and Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory.

The casts of The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Modern Family, Orange is the New Black and Veep will compete in the Best Ensemble in a TV Comedy Series category.

The nominees for Best Actress in a TV Drama Series are Claire Danes for Homeland, Viola Davis for How to Get Away with Murder, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black, Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey and Robin Wright for House of Cards.

Vying for the Best Actor in a TV Drama Series title are Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Peter Dinklage for Game of Thrones, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey for True Detective, and Kevin Spacey for House of Cards.

The Best Ensemble in a Drama Series prize will go to the stars of one of the following: Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland and House of Cards.

Shortlisted for Best Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries are Adrien Brody for Houdini, Cumberbatch for Sherlock: His Last Vow, Richard Jenkins for Olive Kitteridge, Ruffalo for The Normal Heart and Billy Bob Thornton for Fargo. Nominated for Best Actress in a TV Movie or Miniseries are Ellen Burtsyn for Flowers in the Attic, Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Honorable Woman, Frances McDormand for Olive Kitteridge, Julia Roberts for The Normal Heart and Cicely Tyson for The Trip to Bountiful.
