LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Ryan Reynolds will return as the Merc with a Mouth in Marvel standalone film Deadpool.

The 38-year-old actor first portrayed the character in 2009 feature X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds announced the news by posting a photo of bullets and cartridges in the shape of Deadpool's face Thursday on Twitter.

"Uh... It's Chimichanga Time," he captioned the picture in reference to the antihero's favorite food.

In the Marvel comics, Deadpool is the alias of Wade Wilson, nicknamed the "Merc with a Mouth" because of his propensity to talk and break the fourth wall. The character is an unstable and morally ambiguous mercenary who possesses accelerated healing powers.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine saw a villainous Deadpool enhanced and controlled by Colonel William Stryker (Danny Huston). Deadpool will be directed by Tim Miller, and is scheduled to open in theaters Feb. 12, 2016.

Reynolds previously portrayed the title character in DC Comics film Green Lantern (2011). The actor will next appear with Rosario Dawson in The Captive, and is attached to Mississippi Grind and Woman in Gold.
