WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Star Wars fans waiting to see the debut trailer for J.J. Abrams' take on the epic sci-fi space opera series got faked out with the creation of a well-made fake.

The real thing debuted Friday morning online and in theaters nationwide. It's very short and features some stunning footage of X-wing fighters zooming over a lake and the Millennium Falcon tussling with a pair of TIE fighters. It also shows a dramatic new lightsaber, with a laser hilt.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh film in the Star Wars saga, debuts in theaters Dec. 18, 2015.

YouTube user Romeo Lux posted the fake video as an "international teaser trailer" earlier this week, saying with a slight bit of double entendre: "Awesome! Great tone to this trailer! Now I just can't wait for the real thing!" It had more than 4.4 million views by the time the real thing showed up online. Watch it below.
