Oscar Isaac to star as title villain in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

The character was portrayed by Brendan Pedder in the end credits of "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Oscar Isaac has reportedly been cast in X-Men: Apocalypse.

The 35-year-old actor will portray the title villain, also known as En Sabah Nuh, according to Variety. X-Men, X2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer will return to direct the film, and produce alongside Simon Kinberg and Lauren Shuler Donner.

X-Men: Apocalypse takes place 10 years after X-Men: Days of Future Past, and 20 years before X-Men. The film will see Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and others face off against the ancient villain.

Ih the Marvel comics, Apocalypse is thought to be the first being born with mutant powers. He is able to shape shift and project and absorb energy, and possesses regenerative, telepathic and telekinetic abilities. X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters May 27, 2016.

Isaac is best known for portraying the title character in Inside Llewyn Davis. He also appeared in Robin Hood, Drive and The Two Faces of January, and will star alongside Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year in December.
