LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- James Wan will direct The Conjuring 2.

The 37-year-old Australian director helmed the original 2013 movie, and will return for the sequel at New Line Cinema. Wan also agreed to a first-look producing deal with the film studio.

"We had a great experience with James on The Conjuring, and we give him a lot of credit for that movie working so well," New Line president Toby Emmerich said in a statement. "He is one of the masters of the genre and we're happy to have him."

The Conjuring is set in 1971, and based on real-life paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga). The film follows the couple as they investigate supernatural events at the Rhode Island farmhouse where Roger (Ron Livingston) and Carolyn Perron (Lili Taylor) live with their five daughters. Wilson and Farmiga are expected to reprise their characters for the sequel.

Wan came to fame as the director of Saw (2004), and produced all six sequels. He also helmed Insidious (2010) and its sequel, Insidious: Chapter 2 (2013), and will release Fast & Furious 7 in 2015.
