'22 Jump Street' heading back to theaters Friday

"There's nothing like laughing out loud in a packed theater, so before the movie becomes available to own, we wanted to give moviegoers the chance to relive the experience on the big screen," says Sony Pictures' Rory Bruer.

CULVER CITY, Calif., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The blockbuster cop comedy 22 Jump Street is to return to theaters Friday, in advance of its release on home entertainment.

The announcement was made Monday by Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution for Sony Pictures.

The movie about police officers who go undercover at a college to bust a drug ring has already earned $327 million at the global box office since June. The sequel to 2012's 21 Jump Street is set for release on Digital HD Oct. 28, and on Blu-ray and DVD Nov. 18.

"Clearly, audiences fell in love with these characters two years ago and this summer they showed the strong appetite for more adventures with the hilarious pairing of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum," Bruer said in a statement. "There's nothing like laughing out loud in a packed theater, so before the movie becomes available to own, we wanted to give moviegoers the chance to relive the experience on the big screen."
