'Fury' tops the North American box office with $23.5 million

Brad Pitt's World War II picture has unseated Ben Affleck's mystery thriller "Gone Girl," which was the box-office champion for the previous two weeks.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Brad Pitt's World War II picture Fury is No. 1 at the North American box office, earning $23.5 million in its debut weekend, Rentrak announced.

Coming in at No. 2 with $17.8 million is the previous box-office champion Gone Girl, followed by The Book of Life at No. 3 with $17 million, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day at No. 4 with $12 million and The Best of Me at No. 5 with $10.2 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Dracula Untold at No. 6 with $9.9 million, The Judge at No. 7 with $7.9 million, Annabelle at No. 8 with $7.9 million, The Equalizer at No. 9 with $5.5 million and The Maze Runner at No. 10 with $4.5 million.
