'Princess Bride' stars will be featured on Cary Elwes' audiobook 'As You Wish'

Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, Carol Kane, Chris Sarandon, Andy Scheinman, Wallace Shawn and Robin Wright, along with producer Norman Lear and director Rob Reiner, will join the author on the recording.

NEW YORK, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Simon & Schuster Audio says actor and author Cary Elwes will narrate his forthcoming audiobook As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride.

Elwes' Princess Bride co-stars Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, Carol Kane, Chris Sarandon, Andy Scheinman, Wallace Shawn and Robin Wright, along with producer Norman Lear and director Rob Reiner, join the author on the audiobook, which will be available on CD and for download Oct. 14, simultaneous with the hardcover and ebook editions.

Missing from the project are cast members Mandy Patinkin and Fred Savage, as well as the late Andre the Giant and Peter Falk.

Elwes, who starred as Westley in the classic medieval romantic comedy, was inspired to share his memories and give fans an unprecedented look into the creation of the film while participating in the 25th-anniversary cast reunion in 2012, the publisher said.

Simon & Schuster promises the audiobook will offer listeners "the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience, complete with backstage stories and on-set secrets told in the stars' own voices."

"Narrating the audiobook is a very unique and personal way to share the stories from As You Wish with fans of the film," Elwes said in a statement Wednesday. "I'm delighted that many of my cast mates joined me on the recording, and I hope listeners enjoy the finished program as much as I enjoyed creating it."

"The Princess Bride has become a touchstone in American culture. Its appeal spans generations," added Chris Lynch, president and publisher of Simon & Schuster Audio. "To have so many of the stars and creators sharing their experiences from the film along with Cary will make the audiobook an unforgettable listening experience."

Elwes is scheduled to promote his book at New York Comic-Con this weekend.
