LONDON, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf nearly fought Scott Eastwood on the set of Fury.

The 50-year-old actor relayed the story in an interview with British GQ. The trio star as WWII soldiers in the David Ayer-directed movie, and Pitt and LaBeouf took issue when Eastwood spit on their tank during filming.

"We were driving down the road, I'm in the turret, Shia is at the other turret, and Scott is on the back, spitting juice," Pitt recalled. "And I'm starting to get [expletive]ed off, I'm starting to get hot, because this is our home, he's disrespecting our home, you know? So I said, in the scene with the cameras rolling, 'You're going to clean that [expletive] up.'"

"Shia clocks it, and you have to understand, we've been though severe boot camp already; we've been through a lot in this tank," he continued. "Shia saw it and felt the same -- he's disrespecting our home. So Shia had the same reaction I did and started having some words."

Pitt stepped in to mediate once LaBeouf got involved, and later realized he and the actor were in the wrong. He had nothing but praise for the troubled star, and declared him one of the best actors he's seen.

"When we got home at the end of the day and read the script, it said Scotty's character is 'chewing tobacco and spitting it on the back of the tank,'" the actor admitted. "He was just doing as instructed in the script! So we were the knobs in the end."

Pitt went on to praise LaBeouf, and declared the star one of the best actors he's ever seen.

"Oh, I love this boy," he lauded. "He's full-on commitment, man. He's living it like no one else, let me tell you. I've been fortunate to work with a lot of great actors. He's one of the best I've seen."

Fury will open in theaters Oct. 17. The November 2014 issue of British GQ hits newsstands Thursday.
