Amy Adams stars in Tim Burton's 'Big Eyes' trailer

The film opens in theaters on Christmas Day.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Amy Adams plays painter Margaret Keane in the newly released trailer for Tim Burton's upcoming drama, Big Eyes.

The film, based on true events, follows Keane's phenomenal success in the 1950s and her legal troubles with her husband, Walter, who claimed credit for her work in the 1960s.

The screenplay for Big Eyes was written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. The film co-stars Christoph Waltz as Walter, Krysten Ritter and Jason Schwartzman and will open in theaters on Christmas Day.
