Robert Downey Jr. stars in new trailer for 'The Judge'

The film premiered at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival on September 4.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Robert Downey Jr. stars in a new trailer for The Judge.

The actor portrays Henry "Hank" Palmer, a successful lawyer who returns home to Indiana for his mother's funeral. The character discovers his estranged father, Judge Joseph Palmer (Robert Duvall), is suspected of murder, and elects to defend him in court against prosecutor Dwight Dickham (Billy Bob Thornton). The preview sees Hank confront his issues with Joseph as he attempts to clear his dad's name.

David Dobkin directed the film, and produced alongside Downey's wife Susan and David Gambino. Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong and Dax Shepard also star.

The Judge is scheduled for release October 10.
