MONTREAL, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- X-Men: Apocalypse will begin filming in Montreal in 2015.

Shooting will take place at Mel's Studio, where precursor X-Men: Days of Future Past was filmed, and is scheduled to commence in April 2015. Journal de Montreal announced the news on Wednesday.

X-Men, X-Men 2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past director Bryan Singer is slated to helm the new installment, but has not been confirmed due to lingering legal issues. Michael Egan III withdrew a sexual assault lawsuit against the 48-year-old director last week, but a different man has filed a new claim against Singer.

X-Men: Apocalypse will focus on the supervillain Apocalypse. In the Marvel comics, the character was born En Sabah Nur thousands of years ago in Akkaba, and is the first being to have mutant powers. Apocalypse is able to shape shift and project and absorb energy, and possesses regenerative, telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

Brendan Pedder teased the villain at the end of Days of Future Past, but it is unknown if the actor will reprise the role in the new film. Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier) are also rumored to return.

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled for release May 27, 2016.
