VENICE, Italy, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Al Pacino pulled double duty Saturday night at the Venice Film Festival, attending events for two of his films, The Humbling and Manglehorn.

On the fifth day of the festival, two films starring the 74-year-old actor in roles about aging and regret, had world premieres.

Manglehorn, directed by David Gordon Green and co-starring Holly Hunter and Chris Messina, is about a reclusive locksmith who hasn't recovered from losing the love of his life.

"As this solitary man approaches the possibility of new love, he finds himself at a crossroads between remaining consumed by the past and embracing the present," the official synopsis of the film says.

The film is one of 20 in contention for the top prize at the Venice Film Festival.

The Humbling, co-starring Greta Gerwig and Dianne Wiest, is the story of an aging stage actor who has an affair with a much-younger lesbian.

The film, which is not up for the top award at the festival, is based upon Philip Roth's novel of the same name.

Also premiering Saturday — but not featuring Pacino — was 3 Coeurs, starring Charlotte Gainsbourg, Benoit Poelvoorde and Catherine Deneuve.

The French movie is about a missed connection between a man and a woman who meet each other at a train station. The man searches for the woman after missing a date with her, but ends up falling for the woman's sister instead.

3 Coeurs is up for the top prize against Manglehorn.
