Nicolas Cage stars as a warrior in first 'Outcast' trailer

The actor portrays an ex-Crusader who is sucked into political intrigue in 12th century China.

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Nicolas Cage stars in the first trailer for Outcast.

The 50-year-old actor portrays Gallian, aka the White Ghost, a legendary Crusader-turned-bandit, alongside Hayden Christensen (Star Wars: Episode II, Star Wars: Episode III) as Arken, a fellow Crusader who must overcome his personal demons.

The characters go on to fight in imperial China when the heir to the throne becomes the target of an assassination plot. The two men must work together to protect the boy from his villainous older brother, and restore him to his rightful place on the throne.

James Dormer (The Holding, Strike Back) wrote the script, and the film marks stunt pro Nick Powell's (The Bourne Identity, Resident Evil: Retribution) directorial debut. Liu Yifei (The Forbidden Kingdom) and Andy On (White Vengeance) co-star.

Outcast opens in theaters February 27, 2015.
