The Andrew Wai-keung Lau and Andrew Loo-directed flick has been acquired by indie distributor A24 and satellite TV provider DirecTV, the companies announced Wednesday. In turn, the film will be available on DirecTV for 30 days immediately after its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which takes place August 14-20.
Revenge of the Green Dragons explores Asian American gang life in New York City in the 1980s and '90s. The film is Scorsese's second collaboration with co-writer Lau, who wrote the film (Infernal Affairs) that Scorsese remade as The Departed.
A24 and DirecTV have already partnered with two other directors for the limited release of their films before they hit movie theaters. Both Denis Villeneuve's drama Enemy and Jeff Baena's Life After Beth were available on demand for 30 days prior to their official releases in March and Friday respectively.
