LONDON, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Ricky Gervais will reprise David Brent in feature film Life on the Road.

The 53-year-old actor previously portrayed the character on television show The Office. Gervais created, wrote and directed the series for two seasons on BBC Two, and the program inspired the U.S. version of the sitcom led by Steve Carrell.

Life on the Road will take place 15 years after Brent left paper company Wernham Hogg. The Office special The Office Revisited (2013) saw the character begin a new career as a talent manager, and the movie will follow his last-ditch attempt to become a rock star.

"[Brent] thinks it'll be like Scorsese doing the Rolling Stones, but we'll show the full horror," Gervais said in a statement. "He's had to take two weeks off work and cash in his pension, because the session musicians in the band are costing him more than he's getting in ticket sales.

The film is being backed by BBC Films, and will be shot in the same mockumentary style as the series. Production begins in 2015.

Gervais most recently appeared as the title character on Derek. The Channel 4 series premiered its second season on Netflix in April, and may return for a third season.
