LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Kristen Stewart will not return for the Snow White and the Huntsman prequel.

The 24-year-old actress portrayed Snow White in the original 2012 movie. The feature was directed by 43-year-old Rupert Sanders, with whom Stewart had an affair shortly after the film's premiere.

Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth will reprise their roles as Ravenna and the Huntsman, Eric. Ravenna is queen and Snow White's evil stepmother in the first movie, who promises the Huntsman she will bring his wife back to life if he captures Snow White. He ends up saving the young woman instead, and kisses her to break Ravenna's poison apple spell. The prequel will explore how Ravenna and Eric first crossed paths.

Former Walking Dead showrunner Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) is attached to direct, and Joe Roth (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland) will return to produce. The prequel is scheduled for release April 22, 2016.
