LOS ANGELES, July 11 (UPI) -- Reese Witherspoon stars as a recovering heroin addict in the first trailer for Wild.

The 38-year-old actress portrays real-life author Cheryl Strayed, who completed a 1,100-mile hike in the Pacific Northwest with no prior backpacking experience. The film is based on Strayed's memoir of the same name, and follows the character on her journey of self-discovery and healing.
