LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- The Purge: Anarchy shows the next chapter in the story of 12 hours of government condoned lawlessness and violence.

In The Purge and its sequel, The Purge: Anarchy, U.S. citizens are annually allowed 12 hours to hunt and kill anyone they want. The government makes all crime legal for the duration of the "purge" and suspends all emergency services.

The idea is to let people release their violence in order to create a better society.

The movie, directed by James DeMonaco, stars Frank Grillo, Kiele Sanchez, and Zach Gilford.

The Purge: Anarchy hits theaters on July 18.
