NEW YORK, June 10 (UPI) -- Hugh Jackman no longer has a headful of hair.

The 45-year-old actor has shaved his head in order to prepare for his role in Pan. Jackman will portray Blackbeard in the film, and posted a photo of his new look Tuesday on Instagram. He included the caption, "Blackbeard is born. #PAN."

The upcoming movie is a Joe Wright (Atonement, Anna Karenina) rework of the original 1902 Peter Pan story by J.M. Barrie. The plot is said to be a dark origin tale that follows the orphan Peter (Levi Miller) after he is spirited away to Neverland. Amanda Seyfried, Garrett Hedlund and Rooney Mara also star as Mary, Hook and Tiger Lily, respectively.

Pan is scheduled for release July 17, 2015.
