Writer Steven Knight brought on for 'World War Z' sequel

Knight will work closely with director Juan Antonio Bayona on the sequel.

LOS ANGELES, May 29 (UPI) -- Steven Knight has been brought on to write the World War Z sequel.

The 54-year-old British screenwriter is best known for Dirty Pretty Things and Eastern Promises. He also wrote and directed Redemption, starring Jason Statham, and Locke, starring Tom Hardy.

The Hollywood Reporter reports the writer has closed a deal with Paramount and Skydance. Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) is already confirmed as director, and he and Knight will work closely on the script.

The original World War Z is based on the Max Brooks novel of the same name. Actor Brad Pitt will return to star in the sequel.
